AI insights
AI riding coach
Example: gate start reviewExample
This is what a coach review looks like. Reviews of Christian’s real runs appear here once Grandpa publishes them.
Doing well
- Weight back over the rear wheel as the gate drops
- Pedal at about 2 o’clock in the set position
Work on next
- Hips rise early Standing tall before the gate is fully down loses the first push.Drill: 10 gate snaps a session, holding the hips low until the front wheel clears the gate.
Safety & gear
- Full-face helmet, gloves and long sleeves visible in every frame
AI reviews are a second set of eyes on Christian's riding, checked by family before they're posted. They don't replace his coach.

Swapping the rear cogFrom our 16T → 19T change on the ACT
- Check the hub type first. A cassette or freecoaster hub has a driver, and the cog slides on and is held by a lockring or bolt. A freewheel threads onto the hub shell and needs a freewheel tool.
- Pull the wheel, remove the lockring, slide the old cog off and keep any spacers in order.
- Fit the new cog with the same spacers so the chainline stays straight. Snug the lockring to the hub maker's torque.
- Mind the chain. Each extra tooth on the cog adds about half a pitch of chain wrap, so 16T → 19T adds about 1.5 pitches. The dropout slot usually takes that up. If it doesn't, add a half-link.
- Set chain tension with a little slack (about 1/4" of up-and-down play), spin the cranks and check for tight spots.
Press-fit bottom bracket & headsetCarbon frames need a press, never a hammer
- Confirm the bottom bracket and headset standard in the frame manual before ordering bearings or cups.
- Clean the shell and cups. Apply grease, or the retaining compound the manufacturer calls for.
- Use a threaded bearing press with drifts that bear on the cup or the bearing's outer race, never the inner race.
- Press both sides square and slowly. If it binds or goes in crooked, back it out and start again.
- Set crank preload until there is no side-to-side play and the cranks still spin freely.
Brake compatibility checkBefore you buy a rear brake
- Mount: confirm the frame has brake bosses and which brake type they take. Race frames are usually set up for a rear V-brake.
- Lever pull: a V-brake needs a long-pull lever. A short-pull lever gives a weak, spongy brake.
- Rim: pads must hit the brake track squarely, not the tire. Check the reach with the race tire mounted.
- Cable route: a clean run to the lever, with no sharp bends at the bars or head tube.
Tire pressure baselineStart a number, then log what works
- Stay inside the pressure range printed on the sidewall.
- Harder, smoother tracks favor higher pressure. Loose or slick dirt favors a bit lower for grip.
- Check pressure with the same gauge every time, before practice and again before motos.
- Write it in the setup log with the track, so next time you start from what worked.
